Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of NeoLibrary. Creating an account means you've read and agreed to them.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating a NeoLibrary account, or by accessing or using the site at all, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you don't agree, please don't create an account. When you sign up, you'll be asked to affirmatively accept these Terms before your account is created; continuing past that screen means you've read and agreed to them.

2. Who Can Use NeoLibrary

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you're under the age of majority where you live, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. By creating an account, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate.

3. Accounts & Guest Browsing

You can browse most of NeoLibrary without an account. Rating, reviewing, logging, following, and joining Groups or Discussions all require a registered account. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has access to it.

4. Your Content & License Grant

Anything you post (reviews, ratings, tags, lists, comments, discussion posts) is yours; you keep the copyright. By posting content on NeoLibrary, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, transferable, and sublicensable license to host, reproduce, modify, translate, publish, aggregate, analyze, adapt, distribute, and otherwise commercially exploit that content, in any media format or medium now known or later developed. This license covers ordinary operation of the service (showing your review on your profile and in your followers' feeds) as well as the aggregated data products described in Section 8.

You're responsible for what you post and confirm you have the right to post it. We can remove content that violates these Terms.

Review authors, discussion starters, and list creators can delete comments on their own reviews, discussions, and lists, at their own discretion; no reason is required. This is a moderation action, not a copyright claim: a deleted comment remains the commenter's content under the ownership terms above, we simply stop displaying it, and the license you granted us in this section survives the deletion regardless of who removes it from view.

5. Acceptable Use

Don't use NeoLibrary to impersonate someone else; harass, threaten, or abuse other members; post spam or unauthorized advertising; upload content you don't have the rights to; scrape or bulk-collect data from the site; or interfere with the service's normal operation. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.

6. Media Data & Third-Party Sources

Titles, creators, release dates, cover art, and related metadata are pulled from third-party catalogs (TMDB for films and shows, Google Books for books, and IGDB for games), each under their own respective terms, including whatever attribution those terms require. NeoLibrary does not host, stream, or otherwise distribute the media itself: a cover, poster, or box art image is a separate thing from the film, show, book, or game it represents. If a source doesn't have an image on file for a title, a placeholder graphic is shown instead. Your reviews, ratings, and other original writing about a title remain yours.

We curate our catalog to exclude pornographic media (works whose primary purpose is explicit sexual content) across all four categories. This is narrower than excluding media that simply contains a sex scene or mature themes as part of a broader work; those titles remain in the catalog like any other. This policy reflects that accounts are open to users as young as 13, per Section 2.

7. Subscriptions & Billing

Every NeoLibrary account is currently free. We plan to introduce an optional paid tier (Pro) offering ad-free browsing, deeper personal analytics, additional profile customization, and custom list creation, for $2.99 per month, subject to change before launch. Exact pricing will always be shown before you subscribe.

Once available, paid subscriptions will auto-renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can cancel any time from Account Settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and we don't refund partial billing periods already paid for. Where required by law (for example, California's Automatic Renewal Law), we'll send a renewal reminder before charging you for a new term.

We reserve the right to change what's included in a tier, introduce new tiers, or discontinue a tier. If a change reduces what a paid tier includes, we'll give you notice first, and you're free to cancel before the change takes effect.

8. Aggregated Data Licensing

Beyond individual accounts, we study patterns across the whole community: for example, how ratings for a film correlate with ratings for a video game, or which genres trend together. We may compile this into aggregated, de-identified data products (statistics, trend reports, and similar datasets) and license or sell them to media studios, research firms, and other businesses. These datasets (and any statistics, models, or derivative works we generate from your activity, ratings, watchlist behavior, or other usage) belong to NeoLibrary.

These data products are strictly aggregated and de-identified: they never include your name, username, email, any account identifier (even a coded or hashed one), or anything else that could reasonably identify you. We keep and use them only in that form and won't attempt to re-identify anyone from them, and anyone we license them to must agree in writing not to re-identify anyone or attempt to, and not to pass them on to anyone who isn't bound by the same terms. We do not sell or share personally identifiable information as part of this business, full stop.

Section 6 of our Privacy Notice explains how we de-identify this data, what we require of anyone who receives it, and how to keep your activity out of it.

9. Affiliate Links & Third-Party Merchants

We don't launch with affiliate links or third-party merchant integrations, but we plan to add them: pages that link out to third-party services where you can watch, buy, or stream a title, for example a “Watch on Netflix” or “Buy on Steam” button. Some of these will be affiliate links: if you click through and make a purchase or start a subscription, NeoLibrary may earn a referral commission from that merchant, at no extra cost to you. In line with FTC guidance on endorsements, we'll disclose that here, and again near affiliate links themselves, once this feature ships.

Once live, NeoLibrary will not be a retailer, broker, or streaming provider, and won't process payments for anything you buy through these links; that will happen entirely on the third-party site, under its own terms. We won't be responsible for pricing errors, broken links, content availability, or any other issue with a purchase made on a third-party site; any dispute about that purchase will be between you and the merchant, not us.

10. Advertising & Ad-Blocker Policy

Free accounts are supported by advertising: reserved ad space in the sidebar next to your feed on most pages, plus occasional sponsored placements or brand takeovers, always clearly marked as such. Running ads is how we keep NeoLibrary free for anyone who doesn't want a paid tier; we don't accept payment to alter reviews, ratings, or any other user content.

If you use ad-blocking software, some pages or features may not display correctly. We reserve the right to limit, restrict, or suspend free-tier access for accounts that block ads, or to prompt you to allow ads or move to an ad-free tier (once available) to keep using the service.

11. Data We Collect & How We Use It

We collect the account and usage information needed to run NeoLibrary and to personalize and serve the subscriptions, data products, affiliate links, and advertising described in Sections 7–10: for example, your account details, the categories and titles you interact with, and technical information like device and browser type. We do not sell your personally identifiable information to third parties.

If you're located in the European Economic Area, the UK, or California, Sections 12 and 13 describe additional rights you have over your information. This section is a summary; our full Privacy Notice describes our data practices, retention periods, and international transfers in more detail.

12. Privacy Rights: GDPR (EEA/UK)

If you're located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the UK GDPR give you the right to access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate or incomplete data; request erasure of your data (“right to be forgotten”), subject to legal exceptions; restrict or object to certain processing, including for direct marketing; receive a copy of your data in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent as our legal basis.

We process your data on the bases of contract (to provide the service), legitimate interest (for example, to keep the service secure and to build the aggregated data products described in Section 8), and consent (for example, optional marketing communications). Where we transfer data outside the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the Contact page. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority at any time.

13. Privacy Rights: California (CCPA/CPRA)

If you're a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the right to know what personal information we've collected about you and why; delete personal information we've collected, subject to certain exceptions; correct inaccurate personal information; opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information; and limit the use of sensitive personal information.

We do not sell your personal information for money. Outside of the advertising described in Section 10, which may qualify as “sharing” under CPRA's broad definition, we do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising either; a dedicated opt-out control is available in Account Settings → Data, under “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.” It's open to every account, not just verified California residents. We won't discriminate against you (for example, by denying service or charging a different price) for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise a CCPA/CPRA right, contact us through the Contact page. You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf, subject to identity verification.

14. International Users & Withdrawal Rights

NeoLibrary is available worldwide, and consumer protection laws vary by where you live. If you're entitled to a statutory right of withdrawal for online purchases (for example, under the EU Consumer Rights Directive), you may generally cancel a new paid subscription within 14 days for a full refund, except that by choosing to start using a paid tier immediately upon purchase, you acknowledge this withdrawal right may no longer apply once the service has been fully performed, to the extent permitted by your local law.

If you're an EU consumer, you're also entitled to use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform to resolve a dispute with us outside of court. Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable consumer protection right you have under your local law.

15. Intellectual Property

The NeoLibrary name, logo, and wordmark are our property. You're welcome to reference NeoLibrary in writing, screenshots, or reviews of the product; for any other use of our logo or branding, contact us first. Everything else about the site's design and code, aside from user content and third-party media data, belongs to NeoLibrary.

16. Account Deactivation & Deletion

You can deactivate your account at any time from Account Settings: this hides your profile, reviews, and activity from public view immediately, but nothing is deleted, and you can log back in any time to pick up where you left off. You can also request full deletion; your reviews, ratings, lists, and profile are permanently removed from our systems within 30 days and can't be recovered. This is also how you exercise the erasure and deletion rights described in Sections 12 and 13. We may also suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

17. Disclaimers

NeoLibrary is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that media data pulled from third-party catalogs will always be accurate or complete. This extends to the third-party merchants linked via affiliate links (Section 9) and any data licensee (Section 8); we don't warrant their services, pricing, availability, or output.

18. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, NeoLibrary and its team aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to NeoLibrary is limited to the amount you've paid us in the past 12 months, currently $0, since paid subscriptions have not yet launched.

19. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as NeoLibrary grows: for example, if we launch paid accounts, new data products, or a formal Privacy Policy. We'll post the updated version here with a new effective date; continuing to use NeoLibrary after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

20. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arkansas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing in this section limits your right to bring a claim in your local courts where a mandatory consumer protection law requires it, or to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority as described in Section 12.
